Hypothetical Situation: You have to take a Roadtrip, but the start point, destination, and vehicle are all up to you. What do you drive and where do you take it?
I personally would take a C7 Corvette coupe with Z51 pack (obviously because if you get one without it you are a fool.) The C7 is comfortable enough for the journey, and fun enough to drive on good roads to keep the trip interesting.
Start: Bowling Green, Kentucky because Corvette
End: San Francisco becuase I've never been and there are plenty of attractions between start and finish.
What car would you pick and where would you take it? Leave answers in comments below.

This isn't hypothetical because I'm doing this next spring with my mother:
1. Buy a car on Craigslist for less than $2000
2. Use duct tape, super glue, and hose clamps to prepare car
3. Drive car from Wichita, Kansas to San Francisco
4. Veg out with friends in San Francisco, sell the car, fly back.
5. Edit together videos from the trip into a top-gear or roadkill style episode and post it here.

Highway 1, start to finish. In a KTM X-bow or similarly unpractical track hooptie.

It's going to be a while until my mom gets enough vacation, but for my birthday she gave me a piece of paper that says we can go on a trip anywhere in the US, and I figure that it'll be the most adventure we could possibly get for our money. And if we like the car a lot we might try driving it back.
Most likely car choices:
Buick Roadmaster Wagon
Chevy El Camino
Very sketchy late-90s GM muscle car
Personally I'd want the station wagon because it's easy to sleep inside, and not awful on fuel as well as being stupidly reliable. As much as I want an adventure at the same time I don't want to be completely stranded in the Utah desert.

All 50 states, starting in Alaska ending in Florida. I'd to it on a Hayabusa with touring bits for a bike. As a car, I'd take an R8 convertible.

As much as I like the Corvette I have a strong want to drive the SLS. I would start in Stuttgart go south through the Black Forrest then to the east through Munich then north to where I was born in Bad Kissingen (we left when I was one so I desparately want to go there).

I would flip a coin for either E63 wagon or S65.
Start in San Diego, north on PCH, east from Seattle, through my hometown in Minnesota, end in NYC.
-or-
Supercharged Range Rover with some oversized knobbly AT tires, 2 spares, Jerry cans, roof rack with roof top tent, plenty of guns and supplies.
Anchorage Alaska to the southernmost tip of South America. Publish story in Overland Journal.

The one flaw is that the Roadmaster might not sell well in S.F. You would have an easier time selling the Elco than anything else on your list out here. Unless you don't care and are willing to scrap it or trust your friends to sell it and not dick you over with the money. But that is a pretty sweet plan. Also you might want to try listing the car before you get out here and be prepared to get it smogged out here to sell it legally. I'm not trying to put a damper on your plans, I just want you to know California is a weird place to try and sell a car.

I've always dreamed of doing a trip through all 50 states but then I realized that Hawaii exists......... Still a great choice. For me and R8 has to be the V8. V10 has the power and all but for that money, I'd go for the Lambo. V8 FTW

If not California I might try one of the other states we're going through, and I was definitely going to list it in advance. What cars do you think could be sold easily in Cali or Nevada? We are lucky in the Midwest to have a very plentiful Craigslist with lots of cheap cars in decent condition. Far better (for the money) than anything on the Top Gear Cheap Car Challenges, that's for sure.

Similarly to the Corvette, the F12 is comfortable enough for the journey, but would also be extremely fun to drive. I'd probably drive all across Europe, starting in Italy at the Ferrari factory and ending wherever all the awesome mountain roads take me after driving for a few days.

Rust free sedans. Try not to find anything too terribly obscure and make sure it has functioning AC because people care about that out here. The old big wagons have all but disappeared from the roads out here and I can't remember when I saw one last out in the wild. Volvo sedan or wagon might be a decent car to bring out west. I'm pretty sure Nevada also has smog laws as well but Reno might be a good place to try and unload a car and it isn't that far away from S.F.

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider
From Castelbuono in Sicily I'd drive the Targa Florio Route, then up through Italy to the lake district to hang out on in Como and Lugano and play on some of the beautiful passes going into and back out of Switzerland, then down to the coast to drive the Riviera from Genoa into France, onto Monaco and up to Lyon on the Route Napoléon continuing to Dijon through Burgundy wine country. Then back across France to Le Mans (duh) and onto the terminus in Paris .

How about a Buick or a Pontiac Grand Am? There are tons of those around here

They are still on the roads and you might be able to sell it, the question is though how long it will take to sell it. But a good condition Pontiac would probably sell better than a good Buick.

The SLS would be fantastic for this, excellent ride, loads of fun. I almost chose it for mine road trip idea.

I'd take a Viper from Oslo Norway on a fantastic European journey going through Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the south of France, and into Spain. Hitting up all the breweries and racetracks I find. As long as I don't have to pay for fuel or tires I'd be happy as all hell doing that.

Just get some really awesome lights for fog and do it all at night in the winter time so you don't have to deal with fuck heads in vans that don't understand what passing lanes or turnouts are for and speed up when you try to pass them. . .

Any car. As long as A/C works. Their is a sucker for every seat.
Oh. If it is fairly new to sell in Cali it will require smog equipment. Fyi

I've always wanted to drive to Alaska. Never been, but it seems awesome.
Ever since I bought my first car, (also current car, 05 Outback) I've wanted to drive it as far as possible. It's been to Canada, but I want to go further.
The drive from St. Louis to, let's say, Anchorage, is about 3,800 miles. If I ever get the time and money to do it, it's definitely going to happen.

Especially in fog and on blind corners. . . But PCH gets really boring once you get south. Basically you are better off only doing it to santa barbara and then going into the mountains for fun roads.

My idea would be to start in Alaska, and from there to Hawaii. From Hawaii to California, and then straight up, then zigzag down.
